This tool is a variation on our Wind-Out Blind Bearing Puller, adapted to fit the specific requirements of the 6803 idler bearings found on Deviate's Highlander and Claymore bikes.
This version of our tool can remove these true blind bearings. It can remove the bearing from both sides of the idler; the one installed on the swing arm and the one in the aluminium spider.
Most 'blind' bearings found on bikes are not true blind bearings; although there may be a spacer or other bearing obscuring access to one side of the bearing races, there is nearly always still a hole through the centre from the other side.
Deviate's idler bearings are not like that - they are true blind bearings, installed into a flat-bottomed dead-end hole.
How To
First, the expanding collet is inserted into the bearing and the nut tightened, causing the collet to grip the inside of the bearing.
Note; it is not necessary to remove the oil seal that Deviate install in front of all their bearings beforehand; the tool will remove the seal with the bearing.
Next, the 'cup' part of the tool is placed over the collet. A nut is then wound onto the end of the protruding bolt. Turning this nut draws the expanding collet into the cup.
Note; a hole has been added to the end of the bolt; a small screwdriver or allen key can be inserted through this hole to stop the bolt turning as the nut is tightened.
Compatibility
This tool is compatible with the vast majority of Deviate idlers. To confirm if your version is compatible, check for the location of the grease port on the aluminium spider. If the grease port is installed on the side of the spider then the tool will be compatible.
On some early Deviates the grease port was installed on the flat face of the spider - unfortunately the tool is unable to remove the bearing from this version of the spider as the grease port projects into the centre of the bearing, blocking access for the tool. It can still be used on the bearing installed in the chainstay.
This tool can also be used to remove 6803 bearings from other bikes/components, with the same limitations as our regular Wind-Out Blind Bearing Puller.
